Ah yes... the "Attack on Titan" of the 90s :D

Also, I second darknight's suggestion to give the manga a try if you can get your hands on it. There are certain plotpoints that are significantly different in the manga than they are in the anime (or at least that's what I've been told, I never got around to watching the anime version).
